ŽITOMISLIĆ

Zitomislici Monastery is one of the culturally most important Herzegovina Orthodox monasteries in Herzegovina from the 16th century; it is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Annunciation. It is located in a valley on the road from Mostar to south border of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the old Hum area it represents the westernmost held Orthodox monastery. The cadi of Nevesinje was issued a license to build the church in Žitomislići in 1566. The work on building the church and developing of monastery facilities around it lasted over 40 years and in 1606 there is the first reference to the monks of the monastery.
