POČITELJ

Pocitelj is the historic town with oriental-mediterranean character located in the valley of the Neretva River and it is one of the most beautiful cultural and historical entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Počitelj represents a fortress from the Middle Ages. The fort protected the entrance to the lower valley of the Neretva on the way from Drijevo to Bišće. The name Počitelj is stated for the first time in the Charter of Duke Stephen Vukčić in 1444.(Posichell, Vdobranah castello con lo contato). In January 2003 the historical urban area of Počitelj was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
